NADA, PETRONAS signing MoU Tekad programme

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17, 2023 – The National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) together with National Petroleum Limited (PETRONAS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Tempat Kerja Bebas Dadah (TEKAD) programme here today.

The reason for the effort is due to past joint work between the two parties since 2022 through the collaboration of Group Security and the Health, Safety and Environment Group in managing programs in the form of awareness campaigns and TEKAD-based training.

NADA Director General, Tuan Sutekno Ahmad Belon said, the drug prevention program in the workplace is in line with the International Standard on Drug Use Prevention which involves seven main steps that can be listed into the commitment of top management, policy and authority control on drug prevention.

“In addition, the implementation of training for supervisors; education and awareness programme; training for providers of education and awareness programme for employees; drug prevention programme in the community; treatment and rehabilitation programme and reintegration into work are steps taken into consideration as the standard.

“Furthermore, the issue of drug abuse in the workplace needs to be the utmost top priority of employers because it is one of the determinants that can affect the level of safety and health of employees.

“Drug abuse including alcohol at work can not only result in loss of life, injury, damage to property, affect the image and reputation of the organization, but also threaten the safety of customers,” he said when speaking at the TEKAD MoU Agreement Signing Ceremony.

Moreover, Tuan Sutekno expressed confidence in the country’s giant multinational company being able to further strengthen its position and achievements through the implementation of TEKAD programme because its ability to create a healthy, safe and prosperous environment.

“Indirectly, PETRONAS employees can play an important role as agents of spreading information about the dangers of drugs to friends, neighbours, family and the community.

“In realizing this goal, NADA is willing to share knowledge and skills in managing the TEKAD program in line with efforts to encourage employers to implement a drug-free workplace policy.

Last but not least, he added throughout 2022, PETRONAS has held a series of collaborations with NADA in organizing TEKAD, a programme in the form of awareness talk, training of trainers (TOT) implemented targeting the top management group and PETRONAS staff.

Also present were PETRONAS Chief Operating Officer, Adnan Zainal Abidin; Vice President, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Group, Yong Sai Chung; PETRONAS Group Head of Security, Dato’ Sri Zulkifli Abdullah and AADK Deputy Director General (Operations), Dato Dr Muhamad Sade Mohamad Amin.
